Following a design competition in 2002, Kennedy FitzGerald was appointed to provide options for repair, refurbishment and redevelopment of the listed church building that was severely damaged during an arson attack.

The front section of the building was retained with a new contemporary worship space constructed behind this. The Northern Ireland Environment Agency approved this approach and later described it as “a good example of rebuilding – where the modern body of the church has been constructed to support rather than compete with what remains of the historic building.”

In 2008 Kennedy FitzGerald was re–appointed following flood damage to the building.  By this stage the Congregation numbers had significantly increased since the initial appointment and greater flexibility in seating capacity was required.  Alongside the specialist reinstatement work, structural alterations were carried out to the vestibule to provide a gallery for the sound desk and a folding glass partition which provides additional seating capacity when required.
