Kennedy FitzGerald Architects were commissioned in 2004 to oversee the internal remodelling of the existing 1863 Lanyon, Lynn & Lanyon listed Church building at West Church Presbyterian, Ballymena. Works included reconfiguring the area surrounding the pulpit and communion table, providing greater flexibility to accommodate a range of worship styles. Following the successful completion of this work, the practice was commissioned a second time, to design a contemporary extension providing a new welcome area, flexible meeting facilities, crèche, kitchen and multipurpose Hall. This new facility is connected to the existing listed Church. Work lasted 10 months onsite and benefited from the skills of local craftsman and materials such as the locally sourced basalt used to clad the new building.
