Kennedy FitzGerald were appointed as Architects and Lead Consultant for this project following an architectural competition in 2007.

Developed on a confined urban site the building provides exemplar sports and teaching facilities to the University’s staff and students. These include 6 lane 25m pool with movable floor, 180 plus piece fitness suite, dedicated strength conditioning area, two four court multi-use sports halls, two squash courts, dance studio and specialist health facilities including 4 consultation and treatment rooms. The scheme also developed and benefits from a large landscaped park linking St James Road to Cathedral Street.

The design is based around a stacked central circulation which acts as an internal courtyard, brings natural light deep into the plan and also aids way-finding.
