The design of the new Sailing Club evolved from careful analysis of the unique seafront context of the Donaghadee conservation area, coupled with the challenge of providing a high quality civic building on a tight budget. Kennedy FitzGerald’s solution was to design a simple contemporary building that interprets and integrates with the local vernacular.

The accommodation, comprising of modern changing, training and social facilities, is arranged around a South facing landscaped courtyard. The courtyard provides a direct external route from changing facilities to the sea whilst also providing a sun–drenched social area for Regatta days or club and community events.

The bar and multi–purpose space are located on the first floor to exploit views out to the Irish Sea and beyond. The building has been well received by club members, the wider community and sailing tourists.
