The completion of the new laundry facility at the Ulster Hospital represents a substantial investment by the SE Trust in patient care, and marks over 10 years of successful involvement of Kennedy FitzGerald with the redevelopment of the Dundonald site. It replaces the previous laundry facility which suffered from limited space, poor access, and aging equipment.

1,750m2 of laundry floor area has been provided over2 floors by redeveloping and extending an existing storage building on the site, representing a sustainable re-purposing of an existing facility. This is complemented by a substantial 2 storey extension, taking full advantage of the slope across the site to provide a new loading level for deliveries.

The substantial laundry hall is provided at ground level, split into dirty and clean sides, an arrangement which provides an enhanced level of cleanliness for infection control. Coupled with this, the hall is fully equipped with new equipment throughout, including a bespoke high level monorail bagging system, a large tunnel washer, and automated drying and ironing machines.

The hall is supported by a number of ancillary spaces, including a separate cleanroom for packaging of clean laundry within a controlled environment. Office and welfare facilities are provided at first floor level, linked by a central staircase and lift. A 2-storey steam plantroom provides for effective servicing of the building and equipment. Externally the secure loading yard area is retained, with the platform level providing for easy transfer of deliveries.
