In 2009 Kennedy FitzGerald and Doran Consulting entered a design competition to create a new foot and cycle bridge at Ballymoney Railway Station with a connecting network of paths to link the north and the south of the town. The judges determined that the design best met the joint client needs for a signature structure, within the numerous constraints of the site and allowable budget, whilst achieving the brief requirement for DDA approval.

This partnership project between Ballymoney Borough Council, DRD Roads Service, Sustrans and Translink facilitated the closing of an unmanned level crossing and provides improved access to the train station and platforms, a fully accessible railway bridge with connecting paths, better access between the town centre, leisure centre and other public amenities and provision of a new Park and Ride facility.
