Queen’s University since 2006 on a multi–phased refurbishment and conservation project which has included a ‘deep’ refurbishment of the Ashby Building.

The Ashby Tower was built in 1964 to designs by Cruickshank and Seward. It is an iconic 12 storey high rise Modern Movement university building housing the Engineering and Science Departments. The designs focus on the creation of a 21st Century Engineering teaching facility. This includes refurbishing and creating lecture theatres, computer areas, teaching rooms, research areas, open plan offices, cellular offices and meeting rooms. Areas are designed to be flexible, accommodating multidisciplinary teaching, prototyping and research. Energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental strategies are being implemented which is reflected by setting the target of Very Good BREEAM rating.
