The Acute Services Block is the last element of the current phase of development at the Ulster Hospital site and marks a major milestone in the ongoing strategic development of the Hospital site.
The building follows a rational plan, with clinical assessment accommodation located on lower floors, including: Emergency Department, Radiology, Imaging, Nuclear Medicine. Also included are Mortuary, Staff Change, FM Facilities, Kitchen and Dining. Upper floors consist of 213 individual inpatient bedrooms providing Generic and Specialist Ward accommodation including Acute Assessment, Stroke, Renal and Gynaecology.
Located to the west of the site, the new 8 no. storey building successfully integrates into the existing hospital, connecting to the Critical Care Complex and Inpatient Ward Block, creating a compact core of inpatient and emergency care.
Mimicking the Inpatient Ward Block, bedrooms again wrap around the perimeter, forming a large central courtyard.
Externally the material palette is similar yet contrasting to those used in the Inpatient Ward Block, comprising of glazing, ceramic cladding panels and engineering brick.
