The proposed development consists of an extension to the existing school building, work in the existing buildings which are Protected Structures and associated siteworks.

The centre piece of the site is the original 1906 “Castle” building; an architecturally imposing rectangular 3 storey building with a round tower at each corner. The building is on the Register of Protected Structures. This was followed by the 1933 adjoining building, of similar architectural style, and which was subsequently converted to teaching accommodation from dormitory use. The chapel and ancillary accommodation, built in 1961, echo the architectural style of the castle building. A stand-alone PE Hall, built in 1958 is located in an overly prominent position to the front and side of Protected Structures. Science Labs were added in 1964. A substantial single storey stepped level building, with further teaching accommodation, was added in 1979. There are 7 prefab classrooms to the south of the Chapel. Finally, a classical style building is located further south of the prefabs amongst the landscape. It is in a dilapidated condition and is no longer in use. All of the major buildings on site are in use today for post primary education.

The Works comprise the construction of a school extension, a special needs area, car parking, 6 number ball courts together with associated siteworks, drainage and site services.

With all 3 statutory approvals obtained and tender documentation completed, KFA are hopeful the project will be on site soon.
